Perfect Pitch and Joyful Noise!

perfectpitchBoth these movies were released in 2012, and yes they are music driven movies. But both of these movies have something going for them.

Pitch Perfect, is the story of a college a capella singing group and the competition. Although I never want to give the whole plot away I would like to say that the start of this movie was what caught me. Know one expects someone to “blow chucks” as the phrase goes during a competition right onto the audience. From that moment on I figured this had to be a funny and surprising movie. Stars Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Anna Camp (from True Blood) and more talented actors.joyfulnoise

Joyful Noise is the story of a church choirs competition. This shows that not all gospel music has to be old fashioned. The sub-story adds flavor to the mix and the music brings it all together. This movie stars Dolly Parton, Queen Latifah, Keke Palmer, Jeremy Jordan as well as many others including a small part by Kris Kristofferson.

See which one appeal to you more and above all enjoy the music.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, interesting.

alvampirehunterWell with the new movie by Steven Spielberg is out about Abraham Lincoln I thought I would look at something not quite so historical just for giggles. Oddly enough I found this very entertaining. His dating of Mary Todd, his evening excursions to kill vampires to the final part of the Civil War story.

The thing I did find a little distracting is the fact that Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln) reminds me of a young Liam Neeson in his looks. Which had me thinking back on High Spirits with Liam Neeson.

Now I will have to go see “Lincoln.”

I did like this tongue in cheek look at a well known historical figure.

See if you enjoy it too.

The Hobbit and other stories.

thehobbitThe Hobbit, recently released and not such a bad idea to split this book up.¬†As long as the book was with all it’s better to take it in pieces.

It is well done and sets the stage for the next pieces of this great story.

Critics my thin it was repetitive and slow, with action bits but they aren’t thinking about the bigger picture here. This is the prequel to all the “Lord of the Rings” films. You need to look at this like you didn’t see the other movies.

I enjoyed this first part to the story.

That being said, you should forget the LotR and get familiar with the Hobbit, fresh and new.

Dolan’s Cadillac, interesting to watch and think on.

DolanscadillacMaybe not the most famous or well received Christian Slater and Wes Bentley movie but this story based on a Stephen King short story and with a nod to a much older story by Poe “The Cask of Amontillado” can be a thought provoking piece to discuss with your friends on a dramatic movie night.

Give it a chance.

Original and the remake, Sabrina.

sabrinaoldIn 1954 Paramount Pictures came out with a romantic, comedy, drama about a chauffeurs daughter who goes away to cooking school and comes back to her home of her father and becomes the object of the master of the house’s son. And that’s where the story gets interesting.

This movie was cleverly directed by Billy Wilder, who was also part of the writing team.

This 1954 version started, Aubrey Hepburn as Sabrina, William Holden as David Larrabee the younger of the well to do family and Humphrey Bogart as Linus Larrabee the older brother.

In 1995 Paramount Pictures remade the movie with Director Sydney Pollack using the original script bysabrinanew Billy Wilder and updated by Samuel A. Taylor.

The cast included Julia Ormond as Sabrina, Greg Kinnear as David Larrabee and Harrison Ford as Linus Larrabee.

Both movies present this enthralling story in the time frames they were created in, but still wonderful even in today’s settings.

Flight.Just wasn’t worth the airfair.

Flight_film_posterThis movie stars Denzel Washington as the captain of an air flight that goes wrong, but he manages to most of the passengers on the airplane by some unusual flying. This part of the movie was the only thing that was interesting. The captains drug and alcohol issues became rather boring making the movie last far to long. This would have been better as a made for TV movie because you could cut more than an hour off it and had an interesting show.
Bottom line it was too long and got boring. Wasn’t worth the price of admission.
