Fury & Gone Girl

FuryFury, starring Brad Pitt and Logan Lerman. A war picture about a single tank. Showing those fleeting moments of companion during the horrors of war. The rookie grows up fast in this story. Worth the watch, even if it does have Shia LaBeouf in it.
gonegirlGone Girl starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Truly disappointed with Ben Affleck’s performance. Seemed like he was just going through the motions. As for Rosamund, I found her performance chilling. The person she plays is just calculating and truly horrible. Worth watching just for her performance.
Here is something funny just for a breather.

The Judge…..A watch for style and enjoyment.

thejudgeThe Judge starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. It’s about a lawyer who goes home for his mother’s funeral and stays to defend his father who is a judge.
This is one of those films that my advance writing Professor (Dr. Fredericksmeyer) would probably have me watch to talk about. Watch it once for the enjoyment of these two actors and watch it a second time for it’s other great qualities like scene changes, flashbacks, and other elements that make this one of those discussion movies.
Enjoy the show.

The Grand Budapest Hotel.

grandbudThe Grand Budapest Hotel, like a number of Wes Anderson movies seem to last longer then they really do. 40 mins of the movie is good the rest seems to be boring filler. For me after the movie is over I’m tired. I feel like the life has been sucked out of me. Some people think these are great movies, for me not so much. Last nights Oscars gave this movie three. I thought other pictures in those category deserved them more. Congratulations to those others who one last night because I thought all of them did great.

Two for intrigue, Man on a Ledge & Inside Man.

manonledgeMan On A Ledge, stars Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Ed Harris. This was one of those that got me hooked right away and I couldn’t leave my seat until the end. Stealing is the art of distraction. N only in this movie but in the other one I picked for this double feature. insideman Inside Man, stars Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, here the item of value may not be what you thought in the first place, and the person on the hot seat here has something to hide. Both were interesting and very creative. Enjoy!

The Oxford Murders and Riddle.

Well if you haven’t heard of either one don’t be shocked.
oxfordmurderThe Oxford Murders stars John Hurt and Elijah Woods, its about a grad student from the US meeting the professor he wants to work with and ends up being involved in a weird series of murders. While I found the twists interesting it is a watch once movie. You may actually figure this one out before the end.
RiddleRiddle stars Elisabeth Harnois, Diora Baird, Bryan Lillis, Ben Bledsoe and Val Kilmer. A girl goes searching for her missing brother. Val doesn’t have a great role in this and really not a big role. Its a horror mystery, the plot wasn’t great this would be an ok movie if you are not paying for it and are having beers and popcorn with friends.
Keep watching!

If Daniel Craig retires as James Bond maybe Rupert Penry-Jones?

rupert2If you haven’t seen or heard of this dashing British Actor then where have you been hiding. rupert1He has been in a number of good TV series and he is very talented. MI-5, Whitechapel, The 39 Steps and Silk just to name some of his more recent shows. Take a look and see what you think.

Young Sherlock Holmes & The Librarian & The Adventurer.

Well if you are a fan of the first two you might like the third, for those of you that haven’t seen any of these here is a little background. Three movies that have some Indiana Jones heart in them.
youngsherlockYoung Sherlock Holmes came out in 1985, this tale shows a different side to Sherlock with adventure and love in a mystery with his very young friend who will become Dr. Watson. Staring Nicholas Rowe and Alan Cox. thelibrarianquestThe Librarian is a series of TV movies staring Noah Wyle and came out in 2000’s. This is a group unlike Indiana Jones that searches for antiquities that may harm the world if it were not for the Librarians who go and find them and put them in a safe place. theadventurerThe Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box, involves the sons of a antiquities agent and an Sherlock/Indiana Jones agent who is after the bad guys. Staring Aneurin Barnard from The White Queen he is one of the sons who searches for his brother who has been taken by the bad guys and helps find the Midas Box. Michael Sheen plays the agent with nine lives. Oddly enough most critics have rate all of these movies about the same. If your young or young at heart you should enjoy all of these. Not big budget but rather entertaining for a quite afternoon.

Lone Ranger….Tonto is his equal!

lone rangerWell if you haven’t seen it you should and make up your own mind. Starring, Armie Hammer(Mirror Mirror), Johnny Depp (Really!), William Fichtner(Drive Angry), Helen Bonham Carter(Dark Shadows). It’s time Tonto had more of a leading roll. I won’t tell you any more of the story but I will say that some of the weird complaints about the movie are just that weird.

Enjoy the movie.

Looper may make you loopy.

Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels.
Gripping, thought provoking, and that makeup on Joseph caught me off guard.
I did get some concepts that not everyone I watched this with pick-up on.
If you haven’t seen it I don’t want to spoil it for you but some people found they needed to watch this one twice.
Happy Watching.

Sherlock Holmes….more Modern.

sherlockTwo new versions of Sherlock Holmes out there to enjoy.
I’ve been caught by the BBC Sherlock version more than the other. Benedict Cumberbatch is Sherlock with his blog seems slightly jealous of Watson’s (Martin Freeman) blog which gets a number of visitors. Texting instead of sending telegrams. The first episode of this series brought you to the modernized version of Sherlock so fast it felt comfortable by the tie the episode was over. I spent a week getting caught up to the end of the second season.
While we wait for Cumberbatch and Freeman to return to filming this series I would like to mention that both are in the next movie in the Hobbit series, and Cumberbatch is in the next movie in the Star Trek series.
